Earth Hour 2010

At 8.30pm on the 27 March, 2010, millions of people in some of the world’s major capital cities, including Copenhagen, Toronto, Chicago, Melbourne, Brisbane, Tel Aviv and Manila will unite and switch off the lights for Earth Hour.

Last year, thousands of people across Singapore took part in Earth Hour as individuals at home and organisations switched off their lights to reduce carbon footprint and many parts of Singapore were plunged into darkness for one hour.

For one hour, commercial entities and residential households around the island powered down their lighting collectively, drawing attention to the extent of energy that actually goes into superfluous lighting.

Singapore Polytechnic Environment Club is also doing its part to generate awareness of Earth  Hour 2010 here on campus grounds.

Our objective is to garner support from the staff & students from SP and make youths the ambassadors of the cause. We want to encourage them to be proactive, not just reactive. This will create a domino effect, spreading the message to more than the intended audience.
